“Womin Djeka" in the language of my ancestors, the first people of Melbourne - the Boon wurrung people of the great Kulin Nation, "Welcome". In their language Tjanabi meant to "have a joyous occassion or to celebrate" so when next in Melbourne, join us and share the experience.

During the last six years, Tjanabi has built and international reputation, for its unique cuisine and hospitality – founded on the concept of its Founder, Carolyn Briggs, to create a contemporary celebration of Melbourne’s Indigenous heritage. For the last four years Tjanabi has been based at Federation Square.
Carolyn Briggs says that “Melbourne has one of the most vibrant and exciting contemporary Indigenous cultures anywhere in the world – be it through music, art food or our unique sense of hospitality or welcoming”. As Tjanabi moves closer to the end of their lease period at Federation Square, the time has come to re position Tjanabi in the heart of Melbourne – a City which Carolyn Briggs describes as a City that has embraced its past to become one of the great multi cultural capitals of the world.
Tjanabi will be leaving Federation square this weekend, in preparation for a move to a new venue.
This re location is expected to take several month, and during this time Tjanabi will continue to offer its tour products and private catering.
